What’s New for the 2019 Porsche 911?
The hallowed Porsche 911, the world’s best sports cars, encompasses a wide range of vehicles, including eight distinct models and three body styles, subdivided into many trim levels. All 911 models have in common over 50 years of constant improvement. The big changes for the 2019 model year center around the 911 GT3 RS and 911 GT2 RS.
2019 911 GT3 RS
The GT3 RS is more powerful and bigger than ever. It now sports a full 74.0-inch width. The 4.0-liter flat-six engine has received many refinements, including beefed-up connecting-rod bearings, a stiffer crankshaft with bigger main bearings, new rings and pistons, valve-clearance compensation, and much more. It all adds up to an output of 520 horsepower, up 20 from the previous mode. Other upgrades include two new tire brands — Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 and Dunlop Sport Maxx Race 2 — measuring 265/35ZR-20 in front and 325/30ZR-21 at the rear, as well as titanium tailpipes and a 2.9-second zero-to-60 mph time. The springs have been stiffened fore and aft, and the suspension ball joints are now metallic. Other changes include quicker steering, reconfigured louvers on the fender-top, a new rear underbody diffuser, a larger front spoiler, and huge brakes with revised cooling ducts.
2019 911 GT2 RS
The GT2 RS is essentially the same car as the GT3 RS but for one element: A thrilling 700-horsepower twin-turbo flat-six engine that propels the GT2 RS from zero to 60 in a neck-snapping 2.7 seconds. Power flows through a seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmission, the same one found in the GT3 RS. If your idea of a good time is burning rubber at the track, the GT2 RS is your car.
